Lt. Commander Koichiro Oota (オオタ・コウイチロウ) is a survivor of the Luxion disaster of 2015. He is Noriko Takaya and Kazumi Amano's coach. At one point during Top o Nerae! Gunbuster, he contracts Space Radiation Sickness and Noriko and Kazumi, unsure whether he is alive or not, fight off an army of Space Monsters in his memory, resulting in arguably the most intense battle of the entire series:
"Don't think of Gunbuster as just an ordinary machine! This machine has Coach's... Coach's... Coach's heart beating within it!" - Noriko Takaya.
Appearance
He has long, dark green hair and green eyes which are covered by sunglasses. He has a scar over his right eye.
Trivia
- Coach is voiced by Norio Wakamoto, commonly known as the manliest voice actor of all time.
- As seen in the 2012 episodes of Gunbuster Science Lessons, Coach was somehow able to stay alive for 12,000 years, presumably through the power of Hard Work and Guts.
